Boomers. Save Face.

This is an era when celebrities  - not to mention models – are feeling the pressure to look ‘refreshed’.  As are many of us ‘dull normal’ men and women. Pharma and medical professions have responded.  Ads for Botox appear on store front windows – if not the back of buses. And beauty products offer hope – often using models under 20 years of age. A major reaction to the huge choice of ‘anti-aging’ products available?  Most people are confused. Glycolic acid? Retinol? Botox? Will that product showing a spotted egg beside a smooth, white one work on my sun spots? We chatted with Medical Esthetician Lisa Best at PEAU BOUTIQUE.

Lisa Best, Peau Boutique

While she did not comment on injections – Botox, Sculptra, Restylane etc.  - she could suggest non-invasive products, which assist ‘mature’ skin. VIVIER, made in Quebec (!), is fabulous. Particularly the best-selling serum C E PEPTIDES. It contains concentrated, pharmaceutical grade Vitamin C, easily absorbed by the epidermis, helps ‘’brighten the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines.‘’ The oil- and alcohol-free serum helps repair the skin – a boon for boomers who used baby oil for tanning so many years ago!  An ideal eye cream from Vivier is FIRMING EYE CONTOUR CREAM, also with antioxidants and peptides. Products are hyperallergenic, another fabulous fashion fact as many baby boomers develop allergies as they grow older. Peau Boutique carries another line of skincare products suitable to ‘saving face’: DERMACEUTIC.  From France (land of lovely ladies), products are high performance. Their TurnOver treatment claims to slow down skin aging by stimulating natural skin turnover, collagen and elastin synthesis. It contains 15% glycolic acid, balanced by Vitamin E, which nourishes. And for those needing a little moisturizing – another boring part of aging skin is dryness – DERMACEUTIC’s HyalCeutic is non-greasy and easily penetrates the skin to maintain moisture. NEW PRODUCT at Peau is the ZO line. Ossential® Radical Night Repair Plus claims to accelerate cellular turnover with its potent concentration of retinol: 1%. This causes light to mild flaking, which means skin can generate new cells and produce more collagen. Older cells rise to the surface and exfoliate. The ‘new’ skin appears younger and more even-toned. Best approach for your skin? And always, always, always  -did we say always? – wear sunscreen. ELTA MD is one of the best, and is available in many SPFs: 30,40, 41, 45 and 50. Finally, if you do wear make-up – and who doesn’t?! – try natural mineral-based La Bella Donna (exclusive in Quebec to Peau Boutique). Products are 100% natural, so are actually good for your skin.
