Galerie de Bellefeuille Unveils 3rd Location

Modern Painters (NY) recently listed GALERIE DE BELLEFEUILLE as one of the ‘500 Best Galleries Worldwide.’ The Montreal-based gallery has just expanded. Again. The flagship (GdB l) is found on Westmount’s tony avenue, where the space attracts collectors from all over Canada, and indeed, the world. GdB ll is across the street, and showcases contemporary photography. And on June 16, Helen and Jacques Bellefeuille, the energetic couple behind the success story, unveiled GdB lll, located in the prestigious Port Royal Building, with an invitation-only champagne reception.

The eve showcased a range of artists: Lynne Chadwick, David Drebin, Vic Muniz, Arman, Stephan Balkenhol, Hanneke Beaumont, Mel Bochner and Quebecers Paul Béliveau, André Monet, Nicolas Ruel, and Peter Krausz. Damien Hirst‘s famed ‘diamond skull’ image greeted arrivals at the front door;  Dale Chihuly’s gleaming glass sculptures sat on shelves.  Roberto Polidori’s  images of Versailles were on the 2nd floor.

Over 400 guests arrived on a brilliantly beautiful eve.  Photographer Nicolas Ruel, who was invited by Jean Paul Gaultier to film at the designer’s Paris studio, had his photos on display. Viz Muniz, whose giant paper boat sculpture Lampedusa showed at the 56th Venice Biennale, had a wonderful large work coveted by many. However, it bore a red dot. Two massive bronze Lynn Chadwick sculptures sat on the gallery’s main floor.

David Drebin’s famed light box photos shared a space with couture shopping bags – CHANEL etc – by Jonathan Seliger.

As many ladies sported Chanel, Armani and Prada bags, the retail reference brought smiles. The irony was subtle… yet. Peter Anton’s delicious-looking chocolates –  a charming trompe l’oeil – sat above the counter. Roederer champagne poured all night, served in Waterford crystal of course!
